Adobe Acquires Figma: 3 critical lessons for entrepreneurs

On Thursday, May 15, 2022, the news of Adobe acquiring Figma, one of its major competitors, for $20 billion shook the design world. Despite Figma retaining its autonomy in the merger, the deal was trailed by many reactions and concerns from Figma users and designers.

Here are some leadership qualities displayed by the Founder of Figma, Dylan Field, that have helped to quell anxiety surrounding the acquisition.

  1. Care about your community of users: Shortly after the news of the merger was announced, Dylan Field scheduled a space to address the concerns of users. The Twitter space initially lasted 30 minutes, but Dylan extended it to two hours. It is notably part of the reasons Figma is successful: empathetic listening. If you show empathy for your client’s challenges and solve them, they will trust your services.

2. Communicate: Shortly after the space, an AMA slack channel was launched that allowed people to express further concerns. It’s essential always to keep the communication channels open for your customers.

3. Be more open to feedback and empower your team: If business leaders want the best results, they should be available for feedback from clients and employees.
